Laughing at the Left
By Quin Hillyer on 12.18.09 @ 6:09AM
If the consequences for this great nation of ours weren’t so serious and the policies preferred by the left weren’t so dangerous, one would really laugh, almost uncontrollably, at the beliefs and (il)logic of American liberals. Based on things they have actually said or done, here are some of the things they really, truly seem to believe.
Completely Reckless, Completely Irresponsible
from the Office of Senator Mitch McConnell
Thursday, December 17, 2009
‘And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen. That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Thursday regarding the importance of getting it right on health care reform:
“Senators on both sides acknowledge that the health care bill we’re considering is among the most significant pieces of legislation any of us will ever consider.
“So it stands to reason that we’d devote significant time and attention to it.
“Indeed, some would argue that we should spend more time and attention on this bill than most — if not every — previous bill we’ve considered.
“The Majority disagrees.
“Why? Because this bill has become a political nightmare for them.
“They know Americans overwhelmingly oppose it, so they want to get it over with.
“Americans are already outraged at the fact that Democrat leaders took their eyes off the ball. Rushing the process on a partisan line makes the situation even worse.
“Americans were told the purpose of reform was to reduce the cost of health care.
“Instead, Democrat leaders produced a $2.5 trillion, 2,074-page monstrosity that vastly expands government, raises taxes, raises premiums, and wrecks Medicare.
“And they want to rush this bill through by Christmas — one of the most significant, far-reaching pieces of legislation in U.S. history. They want to rush it.
“And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen.
“That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private.
“That’s what they intend to bring to the floor and force a vote on before Christmas.
“So this entire process is essentially a charade.
“But let’s just compare the process so far with previous legislation for some perspective. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve done and where we stand:
• The Majority Leader intends to bring this debate to a close as early as this weekend — four days from now, on this $2.5 trillion dollar mistake
• No American who hasn’t been invited into the Majority Leader’s conference room knows what will be in that bill
• This bill has been the pending business of the Senate since the last week of November — less than four weeks ago.
• We started the amendment process two weeks ago.
• We’ve had 21 amendments and motions — less than two a day.
“Now let’s look at how the Senate has dealt with previous legislation.
“No Child Left Behind (2001):
• 21 session days or 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 44
• Number of Amendments offered: 157
“9/11 Commission/Homeland Security Act (2002):
• 19 session days over 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 20
• Number of Amendments offered: 30
“Energy Bill (2002):
• 21 session days over 8 weeks
• Number of Roll Call votes: 36
• Number of Amendments offered: 158
“This isn’t an energy bill. This is an attempt by a majority to take over one sixth of the U.S. economy — to vastly expand the reach and the role of government into the health care decisions of every single American — and they want to be done after one substantive amendment. This is absolutely inexcusable.
“I think Senator Snowe put it best on Tuesday:
‘Given the enormity and complexity,’ she said, ‘I don’t see anything magical about the Christmas deadline if this bill is going to become law in 2014.’
“And I think Senator Snowe’s comments on a lack of bipartisanship at the outset of this debate are also right on point.
“Here’s what she said in late November:
‘I am truly disappointed we are commencing our historic debate on one of the most significant and pressing domestic issues of our time with a process that has forestalled our ability to arrive at broader agreement on some of the most crucial elements of health care reform. The bottom line is, the most consequential health care legislation in the history of our country and the reordering of $33 trillion in health care spending over the coming decade shouldn’t be determined by one vote-margin strategies – surely we can and must do better.’
“The only conceivable justification for rushing this bill is the overwhelming opposition of the American people. Democrats know that the longer Americans see this bill the less they like it. Here’s the latest from Pew. It came out just yesterday.
“A majority (58 percent) of those who have heard a lot about the bills oppose them while only 32 percent favor them.”
“There is no justification for this blind rush — except a political one, and that’s not good enough for the American people.
“And there’s no justification for forcing the Senate to vote on a bill none of us has seen.
“Americans already oppose this bill. The process is just as bad.
“It’s completely reckless, completely irresponsible.”

Who am I?
Who am I?
Read the description, then click on the question mark at
the right to see if you guessed right!
I was born in one country, raised in another.
My father was born in another country.
I was not his only child.
He fathered several children with numerous women.
I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in
me.
My mother died at an early age from cancer.
Although my father deserted me and my mother raised me, I later
wrote a book idolizing my father not my mother.
Later in life, questions arose over my real name.
My birth records were sketchy.
No one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.
I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was
widely accepted in my new country, but I practiced non-traditional
beliefs and didn’t follow Christianity, except in the public eye under
scrutiny.
I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult,
disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.
That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and
I embarked on a new career.
I wrote a book about my struggles growing up.
It was clear to those who read my memoirs, that I had difficulties
accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.
I became active in local politics in my 30’s then, with help behind the
scenes,
I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my
40s.
They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything.
I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no
experience in leading a single organization.
Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me, as
though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.
I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances.
This bolstered my ego.
At first, my political campaign focused on my country’s foreign policy…
I was very critical of my country in the last war, and seized every
opportunity to bash my country.
But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on
the country’s economy.
I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better,
and every poor person would be fed and housed for free.
I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.
It was the free market, banks and corporations.
I decided to start making citizens hate them and, if they became
envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.
I called mine “A People’s Campaign”.
That sounded good to all people.
I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the
traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular
support.
I knew that, if I merely offered the people ‘hope’,together we could
change our country and the world.
So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of
the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include “persecuted minorities”.
My true views were not widely known and I kept them unknown, until
after I became my nation’s leader.
I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found
out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and
examined those people I associated with.
I’m glad they didn’t.
Then I became the most powerful man in the world.
And the world learned the truth.

Detroit extorting its own teachers to meet payroll, forcing them to make $10k no interest “loans”
December 9, 2009, 8:12 am
By Kevin “Coach” Collins
Detroit’s school system is disintegrating by the week.
Detroit has sunk to robbing its own teachers to scrape payroll funds together. Public School teachers are being extorted by their City with the full cooperation of their own union.
Under a proposal submitted for membership ratification each INDIVIDUAL teacher will be forced to “loan” the City of Detroit $10,000 in $250.00 increments ripped out of their bi-monthly checks for 40 weeks starting in January. These “loans” are repayable upon retirement or resignation WITHOUT interest.
If this story was happening under George Bush in a Republican state instead of in liberal Democrat Detroit Michigan it would be the lead story across America.
Bad choice; worse choice
The alternative plan, in case the victims turn this one down, is for the school system to cut teacher salaries by $36,000!
How extorting $10,000 “voluntarily” from the teachers would solve the problem, but $36,000 involuntarily extorted from these teacher victims is required to solve the crisis wasn’t explained.
Maybe it’s time to just shut Detroit down
The National Assessment of Educational Progress that measures the mathematics abilities of grade school children released a report this week showing Detroit’s 4th and 8th graders had the worst scores in the country and the history of these tests.
Just 31% of 4th graders and 23% of 8th graders scored at or above grade level.
Fifty years of corrupt Democrat governance has finally crushed the last flickers of life out of Detroit’s schools.
Keep in mind Detroit is the city that recently saw its Council President (John Conyers’ wife Monica) sent to federal prison for SELLING her vote to a contractor.
A City without a functioning public school system can’t survive no matter how the media lies about the situation. People can’t live where their children can’t get educated.
It’s everybody’s fault so it’s NOBODY’S fault
Naturally all the liberal Democrats concerned blamed everybody else.
“The principals were to blame.”
“The curriculum was at fault.”
Of course the crooks in the City government WERE NOT to blame nor were the Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm or the parents of the school kids who don’t do their job of seeing to their own child’s progress or attending parent/teacher nights. PTA meetings? Please.
The worst part of this story is that it can and very well might happen in your Democrat controlled city. The problem is liberal Democrats not school kids. Where liberal Democrats govern our towns cities and now even our nation; failures follow.
We can stop this creeping decay of our cities but not by sitting around and watching. Get educated. Vote in local school board elections. Help register all of your friends and family and get them to the polls on Election Day. Write letters and make phone calls. Make sure your Congressman’s staff comes to know your name.
Make saving America your part time job.
If you personally don’t step up and fight to save America we will lose our beloved country and all the blood sweat and tears shed to create this, the greatest country, the brightest light, ever known to mankind will be extinguished by the Chicago thugs running our government.
What have you done to save American freedoms today?

How low will he go? Obama gives Japan’s Emperor Akihito a wow bow

How low will the new American president go for the world’s royalty?
This photo will get Democrat President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. Very low bows like this are a sign of great respect and deference to a superior.
To some in the United States, however, an upright handshake might have looked better. RememberMichelle Obama casually patting Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on the back during their Buckingham Palace visit? America’s royalty tends to make movies and get bad reviews and lots of money as a sign of respect.
Health Care
As you know, Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page, $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care will radically increase government spending, raise taxes, destroy millions of jobs, cut Medicare for seniors, and make health care more expensive for every American.
By contrast, the GOP alternative will lower costs for families and small businesses, expand coverage, and promote healthy lifestyles.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says our bill will lower premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion – without raising taxes or adding to the debt. Here’s how:
> ENDING JUNK LAWSUITS: The GOP alternative rein in the junk lawsuits and limit the defensive medicine that drives up costs on everyone.
> COVERING AMERICANS WITH PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS. Under the GOP bill, all Americans, regardless of pre-existing conditions or past illness, will have access to affordable health care. By contrast with the Pelosi plan, the GOP bill achieves this goal in a ways that lowers health care premiums for American families rather than raising them.
> ALLOWING SMALL BUSINESSES TO POOL TOGETHER: The Republican bill will allow small businesses to band together and buy insurance at a lower cost, the same way large corporations and labor unions do.
> ENCOURAGING STATE INNOVATION: The Republican bill gives states the tools they need to lower health care costs and the number of residents without insurance.
> ALLOW AMERICANS TO BUY INSURANCE ACROSS STATE LINES: The GOP alternative let’s Americans buy health insurance across state lines and shop around for the coverage that best suits them.

I know you’re as opposed to Speaker Pelosi’s health care takeover as I am, and that’s why I also want to invite you to a special, online webcast today starting at 1:00 p.m. to expose the costs and consequences of the Democrats’ reckless bill and discuss the GOP alternative.
>> CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE AND WATCH THE WEBCAST < <
The webcast will run for 12 hours so feel free to jump in at any time. Throughout the day, Republican lawmakers – including myself – will examine Pelosi’s bill, highlight the GOP alternative, and take questions from Americans via email, Twitter, and Facebook. I hope you can join us for this special event!
Sincerely,
John Boehner
American health care is unacceptable
Dear ,
The status quo in American health care is unacceptable. Prices are already too high (and rising) for families and small businesses, and too many people go without coverage. We can fix it. And we can fix it with common sense reforms. We don’t need a massive, complex, costly government-run system and we don’t need to raise taxes on small businesses.
Democratic Health Care Proposal Would Perpetuate “Status Quo.”
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Democrats want to do. According to Washington Post columnist Robert Samuelson, their proposal would only perpetuate the “status quo” of rising health care costs and increased government spending. “While denouncing skyrocketing health spending,” Samuelson writes, the Democrats’ plan would increase spending and add to the deficit.
A new Quinnipiac survey found that a wide margin of voters believes the Democratic proposal “should be dropped if it adds ’significantly’ to the deficit.” Their health care takeover will do just that. Analysis by the Wall Street Journal shows the “real price tag” of a government-run system is a “blowout” that “will overwhelm even the House Democrats’ huge tax increases, Medicare spending cuts and other ‘pay fors.’”
Top Democrats Call Health Care Opponents “Un-American.”
In a sharply worded series of press releases and an op-ed in USA Today, Washington Democrats have labeled those who oppose their government takeover of health care “un-American,” “rapid right wing extremists,” and other outrageous euphemisms. Not only is this reprehensible, it begs the question: why would anyone want people running their health care who think it is “un-American” to question them? And it’s more proof that we don’t need politicians getting between doctors and patients.
American Workers, Not Government Spending, Will Boost the Economy.
Another 247,000 Americans lost their jobs in July. President Obama promised the unemployment rate wouldn’t rise past 8 percent if Congress quickly passed a trillion-dollar “stimulus” spending bill. Today it’s 9.4 percent nationally and more than 11 percent here in Ohio. The Democratic health care proposal would destroy even more jobs. Only the hard work and ingenuity of the American people will bring our economy back – not big government spending.

What Do You Think?
With the federal deficit reaching a once-unthinkable $1.3 trillion (and it’s only August), we have a lot of work ahead of us to pull the country out of the red ink. That’s why I want to thank you again for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your week and please keep me informed of the issues on your radar.
Sincerely,
John Boehner
