By: Timothy P. Carney
Examiner Columnist | 7/10/09 9:57 AM

T. Boone Pickens, like any good businessman, can read changing economic conditions. While he spent the 1980s as a “corporate raider” and oilman, in this age of Barack Obama and Henry Waxman, he has shifted his focus to lobbyists, feel-good green messages, and technology that depends on government subsidies. The result: Taxpayers will now be subsidizing T. Boone Pickens, a billionaire—and Republicans and Democrats in Congress tell you it’s for your own good.

This week, three senators proposed special tax credits that will subsidize Pickens’ latest business venture, which he calls “the Pickens Plan.” Like his previous undertakings, Pickens has launched his plan as a way to get richer. Unlike his previous undertakings, the Pickens Plan is completely dependent on government subsidies—and this has ingratiated him to politicians and media.

The Pickens Plan, in short, in this: We should get more electricity from windmills and power our cars with natural gas. Pickens happens to be a major investor in windmills and natural-gas cars. Both of these energy sources are heavily subsidized, but not enough for Pickens to profit from them, apparently.

This week, Senators Robert Menendez, D-N.J., Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Harry Reid, D-Nev., at Pickens’ urging, sponsored a bill to double the huge subsidies natural gas cars already receive, and to provide a $100,000 tax credit for the construction of a natural-gas filling station.

Pickens’ company is the leading builder of natural gas fueling stations, and thus the leading beneficiary of this subsidy. [...]

So while our government is running a trillion-dollar deficit, which will lead to tax hikes and inflation that make us and our children poorer, Congress is thinking of creating subsidies and a private tax cut to a man on Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s richest people.

November 5, 2008

Conservatism always has been and always will be a force to reckon with because it most closely approximates the reality of the human condition, based, as it is, on the cumulative judgment and experience of a people. It is the heir, not the apostate, to the accumulated wisdom, morality and faith of the people.

As a force in electoral politics in any given season, conservatism, like all ideas and causes, is hostage to the effectiveness of the party that carries its banner, the candidates and leaders who articulate its principles and programs, and the engagement and spirit of the people who are its natural adherents.

Watching the early voting and some of the comments coming from the electorate I and forced to wonder how we made it this far in just over 225 years with out killing our selves; High school kids in the south Bronx “Obama has opened doors for us” really what has he done? Woman in Florida I voted for Obama because I won’t have to pay for gas or the mortgage on my home anymore. Well don’t tell the mortgage company that, but go ahead and stop paying say for 3 months and see how fast Obama saves you. As a side note if you make over $43,000.00 you wont qualify for the 700 billion dollar bailout. Another Gentleman for Florida voted for Obama because he wants some of the money. What money the treasury is broke.

This is the way I see it, if Obama is elected. Taxes will go up for everyone across the board. The Bush tax cuts will expire. In turn the will lower the tax bar back down where it was under Clinton, from 10% base to 15% of taxable income between $0.00 to $12,000. http://www.moneychimp.com/features/tax_brackets.htm

The Federal treasure has received more monies under President Bush after the tax cuts then before under Clinton. Obama during the debates stated he didn’t care about more money going into the treasury; he is going to do what is fair.

Blacks and other minorities will party hard for the first few days, and then reality will set in. Obama already knows he cant fulfill his promises, so what will happen? We will be strapped with a white Democrat congress, it will be there fault the blacks aren’t getting there money. Under the Construction that would be correct however, this is completely different. This will be the whites in congress keeping the blacks down. The minority community has been so trained but Democrats to expect something for nothing that Obama will end up setting us back in race relations to the 1950’s.

The republicans have always supported a diverse community as long as you contributed. President Jefferson under the republican-democrat party (later became the Republican Party) used the Navy to intercept slave ships and arrest them as pirates. We have Lincoln with the emancipation proclamation, and Eisenhower with the civil rights act. All these Presidents were fought by the Democrats. The new deal under FDR has completely destroyed the Black Family. With out a work ethic you will always be second class citizens.

Bottom line if Obama is elected all the problems will be because we have a white congress and that congress will be demacrat.
