Herman Cain Headquarters in Iowa- Our Doors Are Open!

On Monday,
July 11, 2011, we celebrated the grand opening of our Iowa campaign
headquarters in Urbandale. Herman shared his “guiding principles” and
common sense solutions with the more than 300 supporters standing
elbow-to-elbow in the room. Thank you to all
who joined us for the milestone event! For our friends in the Hawkeye
State, be sure to visit headquarters at 8550 New York Ave., Urbandale,
to pick up Herman Cain merchandise or to volunteer!

Prior to
unveiling our new Iowa headquarters, Herman was in Davenport, Iowa,
addressing the Scott County Republican Women’s luncheon. Another packed
room full of supporters enthusiastically embraced
Herman’s message and vision for America. Thanks to our team in Iowa for
a remarkable day!

Television Highlights

Herman had a busy week in the media! He appeared on FOX Business Network’s “Stossel” with John Stossel and “FOX News Sunday” with Chris Wallace.

Herman in Tennessee

Herman had a great visit to Nashville, TN, and nearby Murfreesboro on
July 14. Events included a business leaders breakfast in Nashville;
meetings with elected officials, Republican leaders, and an outdoor “We
Are America” rally with more than 800 cheering, enthusiastic supporters in
Murfreesboro; and a fundraiser dinner and large reception at The
Standard in Nashville. Thanks to all the great Tennessee volunteers who
helped to make each event special.

Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, NV

Herman was back to Nevada for another speech and opportunities to
connect with local Nevada supporters. While in Las Vegas he spoke at
Freedom Fest and did several media interviews.

Herman Visits Alabama, Tours Flood Damage

On Saturday, Herman traveled to Alabama for another packed day of
events. He met with elected officials, held a press conference, toured
the storm ravaged areas of Tuscaloosa, and spoke at the Shelby County
Republican Dinner in Birmingham. The response in Alabama was
overwhelming and we are grateful for all the support.

Herman in Maryland

On Sunday, Herman spoke at the International Foodservice Manufacturing
Association and attended a great fundraising event sponsored by local
supporters in Bethesda, Maryland. It was a fantastic way to close out a busy week!

Fox News Could Get Helen Thomas’s Old Seat | NewsBusters.org

In what must to the far-left seem like adding insult to injury, Fox News could end up with Helen Thomas’s vacated press briefing room seat.

What’s more, rival network CNN’s senior White House correspondent would be perfectly okay with it reports the Huffington Post:

At least one competitor is backing Fox News for the newly vacated front-row seat in the White House briefing room: CNN Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry.

Henry, who is on the White House Correspondents Association board, told the Wall Street Journal that he thinks Fox News should get Helen Thomas’s seat now that she has retired.

“When CNN bid for the front row in 2007, Fox could have challenged it and had a knock-down, drag-out fight like the one we might have this time,” Henry said. “But they did the gentlemanly thing and said CNN had more seniority. I’ve got to honor that commitment.”

Yes, they actually have that complaint!

We won’t say we sympathize with the whining of a group run by Bill Clinton’s White House chief-of-staff, but we admit: The left has reason to be concerned.

But now we begin the most dangerous period of time for American liberty.

On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care — a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm!

Highlights on the agenda:

ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House.

The network plans a primetime special — ‘Prescription for America’ — originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate.

Late Monday night, Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay fired off a complaint to the head of ABCNEWS:

Dear Mr. Westin:

As the national debate on health care reform intensifies, I am deeply concerned and disappointed with ABC’s astonishing decision to exclude opposing voices on this critical issue on June 24, 2009. Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. In addition, according to an ABC News report, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, WORLD NEWS, NIGHTLINE and ABC’s web news “will all feature special programming on the president’s health care agenda.” This does not include the promotion, over the next 9 days, the president’s health care agenda will receive on ABC News programming.

Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party’s views to those of the President’s to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party’s opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers.

In the absence of opposition, I am concerned this event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda. If that is the case, this primetime infomercial should be paid for out of the DNC coffers. President Obama does not hold a monopoly on health care reform ideas or on free airtime. The President has stated time and time again that he wants a bipartisan debate. Therefore, the Republican Party should be included in this primetime event, or the DNC should pay for your airtime.

Obama’s 100th day in the White House

Tomorrow marks President Obama’s 100th day in the White House and one thing is already clear: Americans are tired of the spending. Survey after survey shows voters are concerned about the massive increases in government spending, angry over the reckless borrowing, and fearful of a return to the era of “Big Government.”

Remember: it took the President fewer than 100 days to spend more money than the federal government will collect all year. “Debt Day” was this past Sunday – only 97 days in to his term and three-and-a-half months earlier than last year. Busting the Budget.

This week, Congress will plow ahead with a final vote on the President’s $3.6 trillion budget that spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. This is roughly the same budget that House Republicans unanimously rejected almost four weeks ago, but with one change: Senate Democrats invoked an arcane rule known as “reconciliation” that will grease the wheels for their costly, mediocre, government-run health care system.

Cap & Trade Is a “Great Big” National Energy Tax.

Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), the most senior Democrat on the House Energy & Commerce Committee, admitted in a hearing last week that “cap-and-trade is a tax, and it’s a great big one.” “Cap and Trade” – or “cap and tax,” as I call it – will increase the electric bill of every American family by at least $3,100. Rebuilding Americans’ Savings.

Last week, House Republicans introduced the Savings Recovery Act to help American families rebuild their retirement, college and personal savings accounts after heavy losses in the past year. Our legislation will reduce by up to half the cost of a family’s contribution to 529 college savings plans, double the Social Security earnings limit, immediately suspending the capital gains tax on newly acquired assets, preserve employee-controlled 401(k)s, and much more.
